What to make of the tremendous “phone hacking scandal”

By Michelle Mevs Portes
Murdoch's media group and its illegal practices?

What Scandal:
It is July 10, 2011 and there is scandal in the United Kingdom.
“The Guardian” a well -known Sunday tabloid denounces what will be called:
"the phone hacking scandal.."

The revelation:
According to Tom Rachman in his article "Tabloid shock, outrage! "Of July 15, 2011:

" It was a unique revelation this month that changed everything. The family
of a girl Milly Dowler who disappeared in 2002 and was later found murdered, has accused the newspaper of having hacked into her voice mail, and even deleting messages to free up space, which had offered a false hope that she was still alive. "

The culprit:
Thus what paper?
The News of the World, is a U.K. tabloid (of which Sunday edition went as high as 2.7 million in sales). It belongs to the group of International press baron: Rupert Murdoch
and received accusation of wrong or infringement in the privacy of citizen and bribery to get to information...

Consequently Rupert Murdoch's philosophy is currently being put under scrutiny and actions of his group are causing i indignation and great anger -to an extent -unseen before- at all level of British society.

What is it ?
Of 'phone-hacking and bribery' , wire-tapping, illegal interventions on mobile messaging and voice-mail; breach of privacy, suspicion of bribery.

No one seems immune:
In the U.K, it seems that every one is concerned: The ordinary citizens, the country's leaders and p decider, celebrities such as Hugh Grant, the royal family too, and even victims of crime such as Millie Dowler, all are caught in this tabloid wrong-doing ... People were "hacked" or placed under illegal surveillance by the paper of Murdoch...and it seems there could be more...

Corruption?
There is talk of corruption: money payments to the U.K. Police for alleged tapping operations. Corruption is suspected, deals with other sources of information.
All is under investigation.

As a matter of fact the chief of police has resigned as we write these lines.

Outrage:
The U.K. government, the Parliament, the British society as a whole, the British public: all
These sectors of British society feel outraged at Merdoch’s unethical behaviour, dribbling to his top employees ‘s causing this wrong-doing. The British people feel betrayed consequently the tendency seems to require that Murdoch influence and empire be subjected to some new policies, laws, regulation....

As police -investigation is underway, heads are falling in the Murdoch group, his protégée Rebekah Brooks and in the police apart from the Chief of Police.... Many people will be questioned.

Spreading:
This scandal did originate in the U.K. , but one may ask, what will be the consequences for the Murdoch media-group in the United States where he is such a powerful player?
