George Zimmerman has been detained by Lake Mary, Florida police after an gun-related altercation with his wife, Shellie, and his father-in-law, Colin Morgan, according to a variety of sources including ABC News and the Atlantic Wire on Monday.
While details are still being released, Zimmerman has made headlines in recent weeks when his wife filed for divorce. Also, Zimmerman has had several traffic violations in the recent past. He was issued a hefty fine over $200 for speeding in Florida near his former home as well as a speeding warning ticket issued in Florida.
George Zimmerman was acquitted after being charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin at the beginning of the summer. Since then, Zimmerman has been, for the most part, in hiding. According to his wife’s statements when she was interviewed and discussed the possibility of leaving her husband, she claimed they were living in a trailer in the woods to hide – and that that lifestyle was unacceptable to her.
