Iran claims long-range missile test

Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards tested a Shahab-3 ballistic missile

If true, it would be the first time that the country has fired missiles into this sea.
Iran usually tests missiles in the vast interior desert but it has recently been keen to show that it can hit targets outside its borders.
Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace division told a televised news conference that two missiles with a range of 1,180 miles (1,900 km) had been fired from the Semnam province in northern Iran, landing in the mouth of the Indian Ocean.

The footage shown by state television does not specify if these missiles are the ones being tested over the Indian Ocean and nothing was shown of targets being hit at sea.
Iran feels threatened by US and Israeli talk about stopping what Iran claims is purely peaceful nuclear development in the country.
