Wisconsin union bill passes!

A controversial union bill in Wisconsin has passed.

The Wisconsin Senate agreed to bypass a walkout by state Democrats, passing the bill 18 -1 on Wednesday.

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker is expected to sign the bill into law. The debate over the Wisconsin union bill has captivated the country as both Democrats and Republicans have expressed their stance on the issue.

The bill’s passage comes as Democrats have pledged to push ahead with a recall effort aimed at pushing the governor from office, while a number of Republicans are seeking to remove 14 Democratic state Senators.

The bill will limit negotiations to wages, not benefits or working conditions. Raises wouldn’t exceed inflation without voters’ consent, and workers’ contributions toward their health care and pensions would rise. Police and firefighters would be exempt.

The Wisconsin governor’s office released a number of emails earlier this week showing discussions between him and state Democrats.
